Annotation
The Tien Kwong Morning News (tianguang bao) was a four-page, one-cent compact newspaper (at one point extended to eight pages) published in Hong Kong in the 1930s. A section called ‘Tai bai’ (literally ‘extreme white’) appeared on its third or fourth page, which content, mostly written in vernacular Chinese, included ‘pleasure quarter’ gossip, movie updates and ‘essays by ladies’. A number of well-known writers of Hong Kong popular literature had their first works serialised in the paper.
A sister publication of The Kung Sheung Daily News (1925-1984), the newspaper had a nationalist political stance and featured anecdotal accounts of political and military figures, as well as war reporting.
